busy week.

Hello!

So, it's been about a week since i last posted on my little page. Was itching to get back to it, but since not much has happened this week, i found myself at a lost as to what to write. :/ However, i shall try my best to post something worth the time you spent reading this :)

(Sorry for the lack of pictures, there’s not much to take when life doesn’t allow you to do so :/)

Right now, i'm currently sitting on a foldable chair in the middle of Changi beach, stuck in the rain. How i got here? more on that later ;) (i love leaving you in suspense) It's pretty nice though, it's cold, and with my dad's mates around, it's become really cozy. I haven't been to the beach for a proper getaway since roughly a year ago, when i went to the beach with my OBS mates.

Monday – the start of work

Currently for the holidays, I spend my time at YFC (Youth For Christ) , volunteering and doing music three out of 7 days of the week. Since last week was prom and RED camp, I wasn’t able to be there for the first week of “work”. So this week when I got there, I was introduced to a sea of brand new faces, while I had seen some of them last year, most of them were new.

The view as we were heading back one day
We spent the bulk of the day jamming, preparing for Christmas. If you don’t know, YFC does this thing where we go on the streets to share the gospel through the Christmas story, ensuring that people don’t get the wrong idea of Christmas. Its pretty fun, we spend a week on the streets basically serenading people with Christmas songs. Pretty rad.

half of the setlist
It was so cool, cause everyone is basically helping everyone. I’ve learnt so much from the people at YFC, not only spiritually but also musically. Keith ( aka. Gremlin) blew my mind away when he did his rendition of “A thousand years” on tab. That guy’s a genius, only sec 3 but he’s so amazingly talented. He also has the ability to laugh like a hysterical monkey. (I’ve compared him to that of the monkey in temple run)

fig. 1 : money from Temple run.
The dude sounds like this thing.
And you're asking me why i'm so afraid to mix with the opposite gender.

Tuesday – The Marathon (does not include running)

Since I volunteer at YFC on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Tuesday and Thursday become my rest days. This time, I decided to call Carina over to grab a bite and watch a movie at my place. To be honest, I missed her. Hahah. Carina withdrawal symptoms. Sadly, Lydia wasn’t with us since she was busy training to punish cadets at camp. L

14 DECEMBER I DON’T CARE, LYDIA YOU ARE WATCHING HSM WITH US.

Lydia, you are missing out on all this sexual tension

We basically spent the day doing nothing. It felt good. For a long time, I couldn’t be relaxed due to various issues, but for the first time, I felt okay. In other news, Carina danced for a psych competition thing and for some reason, I realized I had severe OCD when it comes to filming things. I’ll assume media studies had really screwed with my brain. It got up to a point where I wanted to find a backdrop for the video to ensure that the background would be neat. Plus, getting back on Final Cut Pro felt good.

 A sense of familiarity.

The pains of a media student. And the fact is, I’ll be doing it for another 3 years. :)

Wednesday – Games day.

The day started early. 9am call time in church for a children’s camp briefing.

Basically, the training was supposed to equip the leaders with the skills to tell stories and the ability to lead the camp. I found it quite amusing that only a few years ago, I was a camper, being lead by the (then sec 4 ) leaders (some of which are in university now) to sing songs and make crafts. It kinda dawned on me that I’m getting older. Not necessarily more mature, but definitely older.

I don’t feel very much older, really. I’m about to turn 17 in two months or so, and I’m still guest-imating life, going with the flow, not really knowing anything. Plus, with the while new school thing, I honestly thought there wasn’t anything after sec 4 when I was a kid. Now that that’s happened, I don’t exactly know how to feel about it.

We didn’t really get to play any music that day, since the person in charge was sick L (feel better soon!) So we spent the day playing really cool games and all that.

The best thing was that we were playing some sort of Pictionary game, and this dude, Aloysius kinda screwed us up because we couldn’t really guess his drawings at all. But he got the most points because his drawings were the funniest.

Goes to show that you don’t have to be good at something in order to win the game ^^

Thursday – HOLD ON TO HIGGGH SCHOOL MUSICALLL

Carina came over.

We basically screamed to high school musical 3.

I realized that it kinda mirrors what we’re going through now. I mean like, maybe not the whole bit about having Venessa Hudgens as your really clingy, slightly schizophrenic girlfriend, but like the whole “not being able to choose where to go” kinda situation.

Seems like Audrey is full of deep kinda weird thoughts about the future and everything.

Troy and Gabriella being all mushy and shit :')

Maybe I’ll choose theater over music. Or maybe the other way round. One thing’s for sure. Songwriting club, here I come. I can’t wait to be hanging with people who are like passionate about music and stuff. J

So that’s that. In my humble opinion, I think Carina and I kicked so much ass, HSM couldn’t even beat us. BRING IT ON, X FACTOR.

Friday – Media Geek day

So basically on Friday we learnt all about the misconceptions of Christmas, like things that were added on to the biblical story to enhance their experience and all that.  It was really cool cause basically we learnt that even Christians didn’t really know the actual story because of the way it’s been told for years.

Had to leave in the afternoon, since the parents wanted me to go for a media exhibition. In all honesty I didn’t really want to go, since the YFC people were headed to Haji lane ( aka the most beautiful place in Singapore) and for a kid like me, that’s basically dragging me out of heaven.

Haji lane.

In the end though, they didn’t get to go since the rain kinda washed them out :/ that sucked. I, on the other hand, decided to get away from the slow pace that my parents decided to walk at and to explore the place myself.

I found a little park at the end of the escalator, and for some reason, even though it was broad daylight, the place had a slightly scary feel to it, with no signs of civilization anywhere. I thought of how the past (which was kept historically in that location) felt forgotten. I sat down with an old friend, Singa the lion, whom had once felt like he was forgotten too.

After a small chit chat session with Singa, I decided to head over to the other part of the museum, exploring what lay beyond the little grass patch I was standing in. I was greeted with more panels, artworks and audio tours. However, I was also greeted with the lights from a fim set.

filming equipment.
Everyone was taking pictures of the interview and here i was,
geeking out over the floodlights and tripods and huge ass batteries.

one of my favourite photos.

I found it especially cool that people were actually shooting in the museum, doing interviews and allowing the public to see what goes on behind the scenes. I could see that the producers and promo team on set were kinda vexed at the number of people who were whispering right next to microphones. ( I call them, “media muggles” )

set.
I was able to talk to a member of the promo team during their break, and she told me that being on the promo team isn’t all “glam and fab”, the pre production work that goes into planning schedules come in the truck loads. She also advised that the job was not for the faint hearted, since time is of the essence, and this could lead to really high stress levels.

Chances are, once the artiste is complete with something, chances are they’re already working on another project, and it’s the job of the promo team to ensure that the projects are still fresh in their minds. The longest shoot this lady had gone for was about 3 days, helping to film a “a day in the life” for an artiste. (she looked really tired to be honest)

While I wasn’t able to talk to anyone from the production team, I got quite a few pictures J

I also came across Pierre Png’s script, which was covered in scribbling and translations of various lines. Maybe one day I’ll be the same, reading hanyupinyin from a page that I’d hastily scribbled down. Hahah

He's an actor, he has English explanations.
all kids should be allowed to have those written by their teachers.

Saturday – Camping Trip!

I spent Saturday properly relaxing. Out with the family, family friends and relatives, chilling out and pigging out. It was fun. Even though the rain did was us out in the end, there was no way anyone could compete with how fun it was, or how many memories were made that night.

We started out in the late afternoon, when everyone made his or her way to Changi beach to set up camp. I decided that it was time to spend some time soaking my feet in the sand and pretending I was some sort of Korean star, walking along the beach.

By evening, everyone had settled cozily into their seats with their drinks in hand. Dad had the generator going, and we had pitched the tents for nighttime. I spent my time writing this blog on word document, since the Internet was not with us.

That was when it happened.

The rain basically came crashing down like the mood swings of a woman on her period. One moment we were high and dry, and the next we were shivering, wrapping ourselves tightly in jackets and getting warm with hot coffee ( which took really long since the generator would cut off when the kettle was plugged in )

protecting Hazel before myself.
building tents

The fun started when Natalyn (childhood friend ) Whipped out her phone, playing music out parents were all too familiar with. This resulted in a 3-minute video of my parents singing to a very VERY old Chinese song. (within the three minutes I also found out that my horrible chines speaking skills and memory retention comes from my dad, who couldn’t remember even the chorus, even though he  had been singing it for years )

The rain got worse and wore, the “engineering” students as they liked to call themselves (they never actually know what they’re doing ), tried to make shelter out of cloths. Natalyn and I just shook out heads. We’ll just leave it at that.

It was fun though, I’d never had so much fun with my family like ever. So that was definitely a good change.

the sick setup we got

rain rain :(

I guess that’s it for the week. Phew, it’s currently 3.19am and I need to get up at 7 tomorrow so head to YFC. We’re going to Haji lane tomorrow to make up for Friday. I’m excited.  I was also thinking of maybe doing blogs every few days so that they don’t pile up and end up giving me 7+ pages to write hahah.

Have a great week guys, I know that I’ll have shitloads to write next week. Stay tuned!

weird face of the week

Best wishes,

Audrey <3
